IB to ban Skype in India

Intelligence Bureau have asked the Central government to consider banning Skype in India. Skype users in India are waiting for the decision from the cabinet committee on security who are responsible for initiating such actions.

After the 26/11 Mumbai attacks intelligence agencies were requesting skype – an Estonian based VoIP engine to share their encryption code. Investigators states that VoIP was extensively used by the terrorists during the 26/11 attacks. Communication through VoIP cant be traced and intercepted by the intelligence agencies as most of the VoIP providers including Skype use an encryption mechanism to encode the voice message while transmitting them.
